Teacher training in Iceland

EWC co-organized a teacher training on Teaching Controversial Issues in Reykjavik September 8, 2018.

The training was initiated by Icelandic teachers and school leaders with support from the Icelandic Ministry of Education, and among the participants were school leaders, teachers from different school levels, and university representatives.

At the end of the training, the participants planned activities to be carried out in their schools before meeting again in November. These activities are a follow-up of the Nordic pilot programme Teaching Controversial Issues and Managing Controversy in the Nordic countries, and part of a broader effort to strengthen school leaders and teachers’ confidence and competences to make democratic dialogue about controversial issues a part of their everyday practice.
